Bleach: Soul Resurreccion is a 2011 PlayStation 3 hack and slash game known in Japan as Bleach: Soul Ignition. Developed by Racjin, it lets players fight as 21 characters drawn mostly from the Arrancar arc using melee combos and ignition mode super attacks.

Development and Release

Racjin develops Bleach: Soul Resurreccion for Sony Computer Entertainment, which publishes the Japanese version under the title Bleach: Soul Ignition on June 23, 2011. NIS America publishes the game internationally, bringing it to North America on August 3, 2011, Europe on September 16, 2011, and Australia on September 23, 2011. It is the first Bleach game built for PlayStation 3 hardware.

Gameplay

The game is a hack and slash brawler where the square button strings together melee combos, triangle unleashes spirit attacks that consume spiritual pressure, and circle triggers special moves. An ignition gauge fills during battle, and activating it with L2 triples the power of a character's attacks for a limited time. The roster spans 21 playable characters, most of them drawn from the manga's Arrancar arc, including Ichigo Kurosaki, Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez, and Ulquiorra Cifer.

Reception

Bleach: Soul Resurreccion receives mixed reviews, settling at 58 on Metacritic. IGN rates it 7 out of 10 while GameSpot scores it 5.5 out of 10, with critics split over its shallow combo system and heavy fan service. Commercially the Japanese release sells 24,725 copies in its first week, and the North American release debuts with 23,620 copies sold.
