Tomaru

Young women find Tomaru strikingly good-looking, Chōchō Akimichi among his most smitten admirers. For his role he dresses in a shinobi costume topped with a headband bearing the mark of no real village.

Tomaru presents himself as gracious, modest, and courteous, yet the surface hides a petty, image-obsessed man. He needles his departing castmate Ashina to her face, wrapping the word 'has-been' in polite phrasing. His interest in Chōchō extends only to her slimmed Butterfly Mode; confronted with her natural body, he fails to connect the two and cruelly tells her that no one with her figure will ever marry. It takes her saving his life in that true form to turn his attraction genuine.

When Tomaru and Ashina began receiving death threats over their production, Teams 7 and 10 drew the assignment to guard them. Throughout the job Chōchō held her jutsu-trimmed figure, and Tomaru, taken with that version of her, asked her to fill in after an actress was hurt, feeding her crush. When a clash with her teammates broke her concentration and dropped her jutsu, he no longer recognised her and mocked her fuller shape. He was soon abducted, with the kidnapper demanding a ransom from Ashina, who turned out to be the mind behind the threats. Her scheme triggered a rockslide that sent Tomaru tumbling and hurt his back; Chōchō shielded him and revealed she was the slim girl he had admired. Won over at last, he grew infatuated with her, though she warned him he would have rivals for her affection.
