Gameplay

Matches pit two characters against each other using standard attacks alongside character specific jutsu drawn straight from the source material. A chakra gauge fuels those special techniques, so managing it becomes as important as landing hits. The package includes One Player, Two Player Battle, Play Against Computer, Survival, Time Attack, Training, and a Story mode, giving newcomers plenty of ways to learn the roster before jumping into versus play.

Story & Roster

Story mode retells Naruto's graduation from the Academy through the team's first major battle, drawing on anime content up through roughly episode nineteen. The Japanese release ships with ten playable characters pulled from the Land of Waves arc, giving the cast a tight, early season focus rather than the sprawling rosters later sequels would adopt.

Release & Reception

Eighting's game reached Japan on April 11, 2003, then arrived in North America on March 7, 2006 with the anime's English dub cast voicing the roster. Critics were split: Metacritic settled around 72, IGN liked the quick, balanced combat while calling it basic, and GameSpot dismissed the mode selection as predictable. Even so, strong sales earned it Player's Choice status.
