Fad is the Netflix adaptation's take on Jet Black's treacherous former ISSP partner. Hiding behind a show of friendship, he is the man responsible for Jet losing his arm and leg, and his web of corruption unravels during a hunt for Udai Taxim.
Fad presents as a middle-aged lawman with dark brown hair and matching eyes. He dresses the part of an old-school detective, a brown suit paired with a fedora.
Fad trades on a warm, buddy-cop rapport with Jet, but the friendliness is pure performance. Staying in Jet's good graces is a calculated cover, one he maintains right up until the moment he betrays him a second time.
A flashback shows Fad and Jet chatting about the jazz great nicknamed Bird, Charlie Parker, before turning to their quarry, Udai Taxim. The trail leads them to an apartment block, where Fad is shot and wounded and urges Jet to press on after Udai alone while he recovers. Jet runs the target down, only to be gunned by an unseen shooter.
In the present, the bounty program Big Shot reports that Udai is among the convicts who have broken out of a prison ship on Europa. Still bitter over the ambush that cost him an arm and a leg, Jet reaches out to Fad and the two reunite for the chase. Their leads point first to a man called Dagmar, who admits under questioning that he furnished Udai with a fresh false identity, after which the pair stage a distraction to slip past the officers Chalmers and Duero. Working out where Udai would run, Jet tracks him to a sorting station and pushes for the name of his contact, but a bullet silences Udai before he can answer. Fad then reveals that he himself was the contact and the original traitor. He tries to finish Jet too, yet the shot glances off Jet's metal arm, and Jet returns fire to kill him. Chalmers and Duero arrive to fill in the rest: Fad had been colluding with Udai and was already under investigation for a string of corruption charges. Chalmers waves Jet off before more police show up, then drops a thousand-Woolong note on the body with a remark that Bird had been the better player.
In Netflix's Cowboy Bebop, Fad secretly worked as the contact for fugitive Udai Taxim and turned informant against his own partner. He staged the earlier ambush that cost Jet Black an arm and a leg, then tried to kill Jet again years later to keep the betrayal hidden.
Fad is Jet Black's former ISSP partner in Netflix's live-action Cowboy Bebop, presented as a middle-aged detective in a brown suit and fedora. Behind a warm, buddy-cop rapport with Jet, he hides deep corruption.
During an earlier hunt for Udai Taxim, Fad was shot and urged Jet to press on alone, only for an unseen shooter, later revealed to be Fad's associate, to gun Jet down and cost him an arm and a leg.
Jet Black reaches out to Fad after learning Udai Taxim escaped a prison ship, and the two work several leads together, including questioning a forger named Dagmar. At a sorting station Udai is shot dead before he can reveal his contact, and Fad then admits he was that contact all along.
After confessing to being Udai Taxim's inside contact, Fad tries to shoot Jet Black, but the bullet glances off Jet's metal arm. Jet returns fire and kills him, and officers later reveal Fad had been under investigation for corruption.
