The eighty-eighth chapter of One-Punch Man turns a diner dine-and-dash into another humiliation for Garou, who is dropped by Saitama's careless punch and left rattled as the monsters begin to doubt him.
A newly formed faction backing the monster uprising tries to seize a citizen who rejects their cause, only to blunder into Garou, who drops them with a single flick before strolling into a nearby eatery and ordering the entire menu. Saitama happens to be dining there too and finds he cannot pay after misplacing his wallet. Fubuki turns up at the same moment, launches into talk of the Hero Hunter, and once more pitches Saitama on joining her group. Seizing the opening, Saitama tricks her into eating his fries just as Garou bolts, and the crowd's cry of dine and dasher gives Saitama an excuse to chase the runaway and leave Fubuki holding the check.
Farther along, Garou scares off some boys who had been picking on Tareo, and the grateful child thanks him for behaving like a hero, a remark Garou finds revolting. Saitama soon catches up and lets him go with only a warning, which infuriates Garou, who reads it as heroes pitying him. Set on proving himself, he swears to come back carrying Saitama's head, but Saitama flattens him with one absentminded punch. Waking some time later, Garou asks Tareo who the hero was. Right away Bug God and Royal Ripper close in, wary of his conduct, and when Royal Ripper steps toward Tareo, Garou warns him to keep his distance.
Garou scatters a pro-monster group, then unwittingly shares a restaurant with a penniless Saitama, who pins the unpaid bill on Fubuki. Garou drives off Tareo's bullies, and Saitama releases him with a warning before knocking him out with a single careless punch. When Garou revives, Bug God and Royal Ripper confront him with growing suspicion, and Garou moves to protect Tareo.
This Monster Association Arc chapter was collected in Volume 18 and partly adapts webcomic Chapter 55, matching anime Episode 26. The restaurant Togas is Murata's nod to the Japanese chain Gusto, its name formed by rearranging the letters, and Saitama's farewell to his meal riffs on an old cutesy word-play joke.
After losing his wallet, Saitama tricks Fubuki into eating his fries and then uses the crowd's shout of dine and dasher as an excuse to chase after Garou, leaving Fubuki stuck with the bill.
After Garou scares off the boys bullying Tareo, the boy thanks him for acting like a hero, a comment Garou finds revolting given his hatred of heroes.
Garou swears to return carrying Saitama's head after being let go with only a warning, but Saitama immediately knocks him out with one absentminded punch.
