John Burgmeier

In the My Hero Academia English dub, John Burgmeier provides the voice of Slugger, bringing the same commanding, resonant delivery Funimation fans have long recognized from his supporting and character work on other action series. Burgmeier joined the production during his years as a mainstay of Funimation's voice cast, a period when he also served as the studio's head writer overseeing ADR scripts for other major titles. His casting reflects the kind of dependable character work he became known for across the company's catalog rather than a lead or title role.

Outside My Hero Academia, Burgmeier is best known for voicing Tien in the Dragon Ball franchise, Kurama in YuYu Hakusho, Shigure Sohma in Fruits Basket, Eyes Rutherford in Spiral, and Switzerland in Hetalia: Axis Powers. He spent years as Funimation's head writer, stepping down from that post in 2018, and used the role to also serve as head writer on the English adaptation of One Piece while picking up occasional minor character parts in that series. Burgmeier comes from a voice acting family; his mother, Linda Young, is also a working voice actress.
