Ruri'iro Kujaku

This manifested spirit appears as a fair-skinned, well-muscled man with grey eyes and blue hair, two long bangs framing his face and the rest bound into a lengthy braid tied with red cloth. An orange mohawk runs back across the crown of his head, which is otherwise wrapped in tan fabric. Dark fur covers much of his back, arms, and sides, long green feathers tipped in orange and yellow trail from his forearms and waist, and he wears tan boots reaching his calves, patterned with a spiral.

Under Muramasa's control he treats most others with courtesy and warmth, though rudeness or being ignored quickly sours his mood. He gets along with Hozukimaru, who tends to cool his temper, and he speaks on behalf of the near-silent Wabisuke. Toward Yumichika he carries open resentment for the mocking nickname Fuji Kujaku, even relishing the idea of killing him, yet he greets his master with backhanded compliments and fashion advice.

He insists the two are cut from the same cloth in their worship of beauty, so much so that it disgusts him, and he faults Yumichika for hiding his real power. Once freed of the brainwashing he warms considerably to his master, though their rivalry survives as a friendly race to fell the most enemies.

During the Zanpakuto Rebellion, Ruri'iro Kujaku waits with the other rebel spirits for Muramasa and appears before the assembled Soul Reapers on Sokyoku Hill. After cutting through a Keigun soldier, he trails Yumichika to a quiet spot, goads him into a duel, and releases his Shikai, declaring he no longer cares who sees his power. His blade splits into sickle shapes that become petaled vines, binding Yumichika and draining his Reiryoku, but the swordsman slips free with Kido, plays on the spirit's pride, and defeats him.

The two later stand together in Karakura Town against the Gillians spilling from Muramasa's Garganta, pooling their energy with the others to seal it. In the following Beast Swords arc he helps hunt the rogue Toju Kirikaze; his draining vines backfire when Kirikaze reverses the flow, and after the Soul Reapers wear the enemy down he passes his remaining power to Renji Abarai before returning permanently to Yumichika's sword.
