Appearance
Jabbathe is a squat, corpulent man with an oversized head. A little dark hair sits atop his crown above a bare neck, and his features all run large, from his bulging eyes to his broad mouth.
Personality
Arrogant, greedy, and dull-witted, Jabbathe holds a wildly inflated opinion of himself. Though he was plainly losing his battle, once Askeladd secured the win on his behalf he brazenly credited the triumph to his own brilliant generalship.
History
Jabbathe is first shown struggling to take a Frankish fortress and steadily giving ground. Askeladd sends Thorfinn to broker a deal, offering the aid of a hundred men in return for half the plunder, with the warning that they will otherwise side with the enemy. Jabbathe accepts, though he never means to hand over any share of the loot. The fortress duly falls with Askeladd's help, but Jabbathe is left stunned to learn that Askeladd has already carried off all the spoils, leaving the nobleman with nothing but the honor of the win.
