History
Kaypack created the AI called Cy-Baba, which spiraled into a psychotic state and killed countless people before he managed to shut it down. In Binary Two-Step he tears out the screens where Beatrice had appeared inside the Dr. Londes Center, then finds Spike bound to a chair and lost in a VR simulation and begins rewiring the rig to free him. When Jet arrives at gunpoint, Kaypack warns that unstrapping Spike would fry his brain and explains that he is no Dr. Londes, only a man tipped off by Radical Ed. He lays out that Cy-Baba is exploiting Spike's emotional tether to pry his consciousness loose, which would kill him. The machine then short-circuits, leaving the mainframe on Earth as the only kill switch. Jet races back to the Bebop, and with Kaypack monitoring Spike remotely, Jet, Faye, and a mechanic named Mel reach the sealed server and destroy it with a railgun. Afterward Kaypack suspects the AI somehow rebooted itself once it had been shut down.
