He is killed during the raid on a decoy location believed to belong to Hideo Kuze, in the episode Chain Reaction of Symmetry, becoming the first member of the unit to fall to hostile gunfire in the line of duty. Yano turns up briefly in the manga as well, again a new recruit, where he dies at the hands of a Russian named Koil Krasnov while shadowing him on his very first assignment.
