Gunpei Kamafusa

Gunpei carried a streak of violence in him. After Naoko Osato struck him he returned the blow with a slap of his own and seized her by force, though he was immediately overcome with remorse, pleading for her forgiveness, insisting the two need not part, and begging her to keep the incident between them.

Unknown to those around him, Gunpei was inhabited by the yokai Mutsukabezaka, a being whose greatest satisfaction comes from dying before a witness and whose sole aim is to leave behind offspring. Because of this, his body seemed caught in a state of endless dying: after his death it gushed blood without pause until it decayed within minutes, yet a spray of water on his face would briefly restore its normal look, and the corpse remained capable of fathering children.

Employed as a gardener by the affluent Osato household, Gunpei carried on a hidden romance with Naoko, the family's only daughter, since her overprotective father would never have permitted the match. Sensing her growing cold toward him and suspecting another man, he confronted her when she tried to end things, and in the ensuing quarrel he was shoved back onto a golf club, which lodged fatally in his skull without either of them noticing at first.

Panicked that the ceaseless flow of blood might expose her, and having already tried to clean it up, Naoko hid the body in the ceiling closet of her bedroom, draining the blood each morning into a bottle. Still in love with him, she grew pregnant by his corpse and delivered a daughter and a son, the boy likewise hoping to grow up a gardener. Only later is it revealed that the entire ordeal stemmed from the yokai Mutsukabezaka acting through him.
