Chūkichi

A sizeable man, Chukichi carried three broad blue stripes marking his face, two of them running back over his head. Over the pinstriped underclothes worn by Kirigakure ninja he layered a dark-blue robe edged in a lighter blue, and he finished the look with small glasses, a headband knotted like a bandanna, and a purple string of beads that recalled a rosary.

A firm sense of honour and loyalty to his village defined Chukichi, and it bred open disdain for anything linked to Akatsuki. That very uprightness gave cause enough to strip away the rest of who he was, leaving him able only to speak in clipped fragments afterward. Accounts also cast him as a contradiction, guarded to an extreme yet at once hasty, rash, and impatient.

In life Chukichi stood out as an unrivalled sensor, reading the faintest chakra and the smallest detail, and his village rated him its most gifted tracker by a wide margin. That reputation later won him a place as sensor in Akatsuki's own Surprise Attack and Diversion Platoon, fighting beside Deidara, Sasori, and Shin. The anime also shows him smothering an area in frost to vanish from view and slipping in for silent kills.

Raised through the Impure World Reincarnation, Chukichi chafed at answering to Akatsuki and flatly refused, a defiance that cost him his mind at Kabuto's hands. Perched on Deidara's clay bird, Chukichi pinpointed the last members of the enemy scouting party and raised the alarm, though Muta Aburame's insects soon jammed his senses. His group captured what was left of Anko Mitarashi's team while he kept watch, and Sasori drove a booby-trapped Muta against the rival division. Sensing the foe had dodged the blast, Chukichi peeled off to fetch reinforcements, pushing on even as Shin was blown up somewhere behind him. He gathered Chiyo, Hanzo, and Kimimaro, doubled back to Deidara's prison, and gave chase to Kankuro's troops, then fell back into the trees once the Fifth Division bolstered the enemy. In the anime, Mifune foils his bid to strike down a cloaked Kankuro. When the reincarnation was finally undone, his body broke apart and his soul went home to the afterlife.
