Gameplay

Dream Carnival pits two teams of two fighters against each other in arena battles. Each side shares a single star meter that drops every time a teammate falls, and the match ends once the stars run out. Fighters swing signature weapons and trigger alchemical attacks drawn from the anime, with fifteen characters available including three hidden unlockables: Greed, Izumi Curtis, and King Bradley. The game runs on the RenderWare engine with cel shaded models that echo the show's look.

Story

The plot centers on a citywide festival that hosts an open fighting tournament, drawing in alchemists, soldiers, and homunculi from across the Fullmetal Alchemist cast. Any pair of fighters can enter, and the loose framing exists mainly to justify pitting favorites like Edward Elric, Alphonse Elric, and Roy Mustang against one another rather than to advance the manga's ongoing plot.

Release

Eighting developed Dream Carnival and Bandai published it in Japan in August 2004, following the earlier PlayStation 2 title Fullmetal Alchemist and the Broken Angel. It never reached North America or Europe in any official form, and it remains one of the more obscure entries in the franchise's early console lineup.
