Famicom Jump II: Saikyo no Shichinin is a 1991 Famicom action RPG from Chunsoft, the sequel to Hero Retsuden. Players choose one of seven Weekly Shonen Jump heroes, including Dragon Ball's Son Goku and JoJo's Jotaro Kujo, then travel through the manga's linked worlds from that hero's starting point.

Gameplay

Before starting, the player picks one of seven manga protagonists as the lead character, and that choice sets which universe the adventure begins in. From there the party journeys between the different manga worlds featured in the crossover, battling enemies with an action RPG combat system built around each hero's own abilities and gradually pulling in the other six protagonists as allies.

Premise

As a direct sequel to Hero Retsuden, the game keeps the crossover concept but narrows the cast to seven playable leads instead of sixteen recruits. Only four of the manga series from the first game carry over, among them Dragon Ball and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure represented by Jotaro Kujo, while three new Weekly Shonen Jump titles join the roster for the first time.

Release

Chunsoft develops the game and Bandai publishes it in Japan on December 2, 1991, with no release outside the country. Famitsu gives it a combined score of 27 out of 40. The Jump crossover concept then goes dormant for years, not returning until Jump Super Stars arrives on the Nintendo DS in the following decade.
