Hoffman

The adaptation frames Hoffmann as the male head of his division inside the Mars Police Department, a figure seen commanding detectives and steering field operations. Yusaku Yara gives him his Japanese voice, while Grant J. Albrecht speaks the role in English.

Hoffmann carries himself as a diligent, systematic investigator, drawing on every source within reach and pushing each lead to its conclusion. He acts decisively, willing to commit a team on a strong hunch, though he guards his turf and will spar over who holds authority at a scene.

By October 2071, Hoffmann has taken charge of the inquiry into a tanker blast along the Alba City Freeway, together with the further explosions everyone fears are coming. With detective Shadkins assisting, he pulls findings from the chemical labs about the virus the blast has unleashed and keeps watch on the computer virus tearing through the city. What escapes his notice is the Mars Army, which tracks him the whole time.

Convinced the following strike will target the water treatment plant in Alba City, he marches a unit out to it, only to run into Harris and an army detachment already on site. While the two groups bicker over jurisdiction, the ISSP officers come up with nothing but a fake jack-o-lantern.
