This Logia recasts its eater as a so-called Freezing Human, able to conjure, direct, and become ice across an enormous range. The power rests with Kuzan, the ex-admiral of the Marines who once went by Aokiji. Even measured against other Logia it stands out as remarkably strong: a battle lasting ten days against Akainu warped half of Punk Hazard forever into a frozen, lifeless waste. Fans consider it the upgraded twin of the Yuki Yuki no Mi, since ice freezes more effectively than snow does. Its name derives from hiehie, a word for feeling chilled to the bone.

Unlike fluid-bodied Logia who simply dissolve out of danger, ice is solid, so Kuzan can actually be struck; he compensates by shattering and reforming the ice that composes him on impact, and he can even open a hollow in his own chest to let a Haki weapon pass through. Any contact freezes the target instantly, and untreated frostbite leaves permanent damage. A fully frozen victim survives in suspended animation and can be thawed carefully with internal heat and cold water, but a sharp blow shatters them and kills them at once. His ice cancels out against fire, as it did with Ace's flames, and is melted in seconds by Akainu's magma, while Whitebeard's quake vibrations and Garp's overwhelming Conqueror's Haki both kept it from setting. The power also negates the usual water weakness, since Kuzan can freeze the sea into a surface to stand on, and he rebuilt a lost leg as a regenerating prosthetic of ice.

Kuzan is the fruit's user, and he weaponizes it for combat and travel alike. He freezes opponents on touch, raises ice spears and tridents to extend his reach, and can convert vast stretches of seawater to ice in moments, even halting tsunamis that dwarfed the Marineford fortress. Named techniques include Ice Age, a near-instant freeze of a huge body of water; Ice Saber, a jagged blade of hard ice; Ice Time and its ground-traveling Ice Time Capsule for sealing foes in living statues; Ice Block: Partisan, a volley of ice spears; Ice Ball; the pheasant-shaped Ice Block: Pheasant Beak tied to his Blue Pheasant epithet; and Ice Glove, a Haki-reinforced frozen punch. Notably, Kuzan names his moves in English while the other admirals use Japanese.
