ناغي ناغي نومي

Grouped with the Paramecia, this ability offers its eater a pair of linked tricks: sealing a zone against noise and erasing sound outright. Whoever consumes it turns into a Soundless Human, also translated as Silent Man. Rosinante carried it, and once he perished his active barriers gave way while the fruit rejoined the pool waiting to reappear in a fresh eater somewhere.

The name leans on nagi, the Japanese term for the hush of a windless sea, a natural fit for a power all about quiet. English releases label it the Calm-Calm Fruit.

One application throws up a sealed dome of silence. Nothing within it escapes to outside ears, and no outer sound leaks in, which walls off any talk from eavesdroppers. The other application snuffs noise right where it starts, hushing the din of the user's own deeds or of nearby objects and blasts. That suits stealth perfectly, since noiseless motion keeps a target none the wiser. Rosinante relied on it for ambushes, most famously in raiding the Barrels Pirates to make off with the Ope Ope no Mi.

Boundaries exist. The fruit smothers sound but raises no guard against being hit, so its bearer can still take a blow. Should the holder fall or lose consciousness, every barrier then in place dissolves. The rest of the usual Devil Fruit drawbacks remain. His two signature moves split along these functions: Silent, snapped into being to wrap a hush around him on all sides, and Calm, which mutes the noise of his actions yet carries in a single direction only, so Law could still catch Doflamingo's voice while sealed within it. Localizations render these as Silence and keep Calm.

Rosinante swallowed the fruit somewhere between abandoning Doflamingo at eight and coming back at twenty-two to spy on him. He buried the secret from the whole Donquixote crew, using its quiet to pass reports along to Sengoku, to shield private words with Trafalgar Law, and, by his own account, to rest soundly at night. Law was the only one to ever discover the truth, which Rosinante otherwise carried to his death. Much later, Law himself replicates the muting effect via an awakened trick drawn from the Ope Ope no Mi he inherited. This fruit ranked as the second power ever revealed in a flashback, trailing only the Fuwa Fuwa no Mi that belongs to Shiki. It was likewise the second to void a sense, following the Suke Suke no Mi that cancels sight.
