Big Five

Rendered in Japanese as the Five Masterminds, the Big Five are the quintet of Class A pupils who claim the highest mark in each of Kunugigaoka's five major subjects along with the best overall standing. Three of them hold seats on the student council, and every member comes from wealth or high social status, making them the public face of the main building's success.

As the proudest students in the school, the Big Five carry the elitism common to the main campus, looking down on anyone less gifted academically. Rallied by Gakushu Asano's leadership, they treat their dominance as the natural order and regard the outcast Class 3-E as a target to be put back in its place.

Each member anchors a different discipline. Gakushu Asano, nicknamed the Genetic General, heads the group as student body president and placed first in the opening semester's midterm. Teppei Araki ranked second and leads the Broadcasting Club on the strength of his social studies. Ren Sakakibara, the Perspicacious Poet, took third and serves as council secretary while excelling in Japanese. Natsuhiko Koyama, the Memorization Monster, came fifth and presides over the biology club through his command of science. Tomoya Seo rounded them out at sixth as the top student in English and the student assembly chairman. Karma Akabane finished fourth overall, yet his place in Class 3-E barred him from ever joining the group.
