Hinano Kurahashi

Among the Class 3-E girls, Kurahashi has a notably small, slight build. Her orange hair waves down to about chin length, and her eyes are an olive brown, drawn in the anime as a bright peridot green.

Kurahashi is bright and relentlessly cheerful, wearing a smile whether she is chasing an assassination attempt or doing anything else. A passionate lover of animals and the wild, she comes across as gentle, soothing, sincere, and genuinely innocent. Growing up with only older brothers left her unfazed by crude talk, which makes her a steady sidekick to the class's more lecherous boys. She also has a shrewd head for money, whether sizing up which stag beetles will fetch the best price or, years on, charging parents handsomely to take their children hiking.

Kurahashi stays in the background for much of the school year until the summer trip, where her command of biology stands out as she judges which beetles are in demand and which are not. That same expertise, praised by Nagisa Shiota, extends to marine life when she plays with dolphins on the same vacation. In combat drills she ranks among the top girls with a blade, matching Rinka Hayami and Toka Yada. She is close to Yada, once distracting guards alongside her during an attempt to slip into a space facility, and she bonds with Rio Nakamura over decorating their knife sheaths with jewels. She also carries an open crush on instructor Tadaomi Karasuma, chasing his attention more than anyone and even declaring a mock rivalry with Irina Jelavić over him. Seven years after Korosensei's death, Kurahashi earns her living by leading children on guided nature outings across the old Class 3-E mountain.
