Hinata Okano

Okano keeps her brown hair cropped shorter than any other girl in Class 3-E, framing eyes of a pale purplish pink, rendered dark brown in the live-action film. Her uniform is a long-sleeved white blouse with a dark green tie, worn over a grey pleated skirt trimmed at the hem in the same green and cut above the knee, finished with white shoes and black leg warmers.

Early on Okano reads as serious, her expression usually flat, but the story gradually reveals a more mischievous streak beneath it. She tends to act before she thinks things through. Meg Kataoka describes her as honest by nature, though prone to real stubbornness once her temper is up.

Raised between an older and a younger brother, Okano grew up in a household centered on sports and muscle, which likely fed her passion for athletics and gymnastics. Her grades collapsed as club activity crowded out study, and she was demoted into Class 3-E as a result. Those gymnastic roots make her one of the most agile students in the class, a quick striker who attacks from shifting angles and favors powerful kicks, aided by a retractable anti-Sensei blade tucked into her right shoe; she also ranks near the top among the girls with a knife. Her feelings for Hiroto Maehara come to a head the day before Valentine's Day, when a plan to hand him chocolate early unravels after Korosensei bursts in on their karaoke outing. Furious and embarrassed, she flings the chocolate at Maehara and kicks him, then spends the next day rebuffing him until he goads her into one more kick, having swapped the blade concealed in her shoe for chocolate and admitting he returns her feelings. Seven years later she founds her own university club and captains an acrobatic performance troupe, training at the foot of the old Class 3-E mountain.
