Meg Kataoka

Standing tall among the girls, Kataoka wears her light brown hair in a low ponytail framed by straight, squared-off bangs. Nagisa calls her dashing, and Irina rates her build as that of a model, a combination of looks, poise, and skill that won her the nickname Ikemegu.

Warm and highly competent, Kataoka is defined above all by her leadership, a steady, rational streak that lets her rein in the boys with ease. She has a real talent for looking after people, though in the past she let others lean on her far too heavily. A recurring joke has her fretting that she is not feminine enough, a small insecurity beneath all that composure.

Kataoka landed in Class 3-E because her grades slipped, the result of a former classmate, Kokona Tagawa, guilting her into endless tutoring by blaming her for a near-drowning that was really Kokona's own doing. Constantly propping the girl up dragged Kataoka's weaker subjects down. Her moment in the spotlight comes when she rescues Kaede Kayano from drowning in Korosensei's pool, showcasing the swimming that once made her the school's freestyle representative. With Korosensei's help the class teaches Kokona to stand on her own, freeing Kataoka from the burden and teaching her not to let others depend on her so completely.

She steadily proves herself one of the class's natural leaders, guiding the girls through a crowded bar during the island mission and heading the rescue squad against the God of Death. Karasuma remarks that her athleticism lets her match the physical stamina of the male students, making her dangerous in close combat, and she ranked joint fourth in the class for knife work. In adulthood she pursues her dream of becoming a flight attendant.
