Appearance

Cropped blond hair sits above a fair complexion, and dark shades usually hide the dark eyes behind them. His travelling look leans on a poncho and a beanie tugged down over his head. That disguise slipped only when the God of Death tracked him on the road, catching him bare-headed and without his glasses.

Personality

A tally of thirty-five successful hits has left Red Eye self-assured about his rifle work. That pride makes him hungry for a challenge rather than discouraged by one, which is exactly how he reacts when his opening shot at Korosensei comes to nothing. Even so, he stays clear-eyed about his own ceiling and will readily walk away from a contract he judges genuinely beyond him.

History

Across eight years in the trade Red Eye built a reputation for killing from extreme distance, claiming thirty-five confirmed targets and the ability to drop a man from two kilometers out through a sandstorm. His codename traces back to the grim beauty he finds in the spray of blood a bullet leaves behind. When the contract on Korosensei reaches him, Karasuma hands over specialized anti-sensei rounds and a warning, which the sniper brushes off as an insult to his skill.

His hunt plays out across the class's Kyoto trip. Using the students as unwitting spotters, he lines up on Korosensei aboard a scenic railway, only for the teacher to catch the round with a piece of yatsuhashi as he leans from the window. A second attempt from a tower above a film park fails when Korosensei suddenly joins the swordplay he was meant to be watching, and a third shot at a five-story pagoda is smothered when a strip of blotting paper soaks up the teacher's mucus at the crucial instant. Told by Karasuma that his window has closed, Red Eye admits he was ready to quit anyway.

Korosensei then pays him a visit. Bracing to be killed, the assassin instead leaves the conversation convinced his bizarre mark is a genuinely gifted teacher, and he phones Karasuma to step back from sniping so he can, as he puts it, take in colors other than one. He later turns up 'dead' at the hands of the Reaper, but his youth lets him recover, and he resurfaces at the school festival to shoot down a pheasant for Class 3-E to cook, producing a valid hunting license from several countries to prove the kill was above board.
