Yuma Isogai

Isogai wears his dark brown hair somewhat spiked, with two little strands standing up like antennae, and his eyes read brown in the manga and pale gold in the anime. Widely thought to be exceptionally good-looking, he remains one of the most popular figures in Class 3-E and still receives love letters from girls in the main building despite the usual scorn heaped on his class. In Koro Sensei Quest he trades the uniform for blue-and-white hero armor, though a bug leaves the back of it missing and his underwear exposed.

Warm, upbeat, and reliable, Isogai is modest to a fault and quick to lend a hand. His leadership instincts and personal integrity let him recognize each classmate's individual strengths, and those qualities earn him the label of ikemen, a word that implies not just handsome looks but a near-flawless character. For all that gentlemanly polish, his actual speech is thoroughly casual, full of the cursing and slang of an ordinary teenager.

Isogai comes from a poor household, living with an ailing mother and two younger siblings who share his trademark hair antennae. After his father died during his first year of middle school, the burden of the family finances fell on him, and he took a part-time job in violation of school rules, which is what sent him down to Class E. Though his formal introduction waits until the Athletic Festival arc, he had earlier stood as Teppei Araki's academic rival in Social Studies. When the Big Five expose his secret job, Chairman Asano agrees to keep quiet only if Class E shows fighting spirit in the pole-toppling match.

The festival becomes his defining showcase. Unwilling to let his friends suffer for his sake, he offers to shoulder the blame, only for the class to rally behind him instead. Drawing on a lesson about Hannibal of Carthage, he outmaneuvers the stacked Class A squad, coordinating shifting formations and finally launching Itona Horibe onto the enemy pole to seize victory. Later, when Korosensei is doomed by the approaching satellite weapon, it is Isogai who puts the choice to the class and helps them resolve to carry out the assassination themselves. After graduation he represents the class in returning the reward money, and seven years on he leads former classmates back to renovate their old mountain classroom. His talents run deep: the finest knifework among the Class E boys, top marksmanship, first place in the school for Social Studies, and the highest overall statistics of any student.
