Trust Time

Eight days out from the deadline, Nagisa and his classmates have all won admission to the high schools they chose. Rather than hold the last careers meeting, Korosensei decides to mark the milestone by assembling an offbeat yearbook. He confesses to having snapped thousands of candid shots over the year, some of them mortifying, which the students promptly shred before piecing together the happier memories. Karasuma reads the gesture as their teacher wanting to spoil them after everything January brought. Korosensei tells Nagisa he always knew the class would grow into what it has become, and quietly assures Karasuma that if he is ever cornered, the students can be relied upon to do what is right.

At the nursery, Nagisa gives Sakura a test to prove she is ready to return to school, calming her when memories of past bullying resurface. The moment cements his decision that teaching will become his second blade, a choice Korosensei blesses while urging him not to lose sight of his own youth. That evening Korosensei stays behind to keep working on the yearbook, and Karasuma, reaching the edge of campus, reports to his superiors that the target is alone. On their order a satellite weapon fires, and a laser lances down onto the classroom.

The strike leaves no mark on the building and no body either. The beam, called the Spear of Heaven, is built to pass harmlessly through solid matter and dissolve only tentacled creatures, and Korosensei is soon found outside, having barely twisted clear of it. The government moves to its backup: a barrier named Earth Shield seals the whole mountain, trapping Korosensei so the next shot cannot miss, while troops ring the perimeter. A public broadcast brands him the monster that shattered the moon and posed as a teacher to menace children. When Class 3-E gathers at a checkpoint, reporters swarm them, and Yada and Kurahashi's attempts to defend Korosensei fall on deaf ears until Karasuma spirits the students away.

At the military camp Karasuma explains the plan is a last resort, with the cannon set to fire in five days, on March 13. The furious students want to make the kill themselves, and when Nagisa begs to be let through the barrier, Karasuma pins him down and coldly states that even he believes Korosensei should die before sending the class home. Only later does Nagisa decode the true meaning buried in those words, recalling their recent talk about trust. Using the remaining time, the students scout the cordon and plot a way in while dodging their handlers. On the final night they set out for the mountain with only three hours left on the clock.

The episode aired in Japan on June 3, 2016, and adapts Chapter 162 through Chapter 167. The broadcast trims several manga elements: Craig Houjou and the Wolfpack are absent, the class's detainment never happens, and the scene of Nagisa's mother catching him before the infiltration is dropped. A few yearbook photos differ in wardrobe, Korosensei bundles the whole class into one bag rather than sorting them by gender, and Chairman Asano's exchange with the press does not appear.
