Future Time

The morning after the assassination, Karasuma promises Class 3-E he will do all he can to soften the fallout, from silencing orders to careful supervision. At Kataoka's request he agrees to let them join that afternoon's graduation ceremony, and the students rise to bow in gratitude toward him and Irina. During the ceremony, Chairman Asano notes the new confidence in Nagisa's eyes as he hands over the diploma, and Nagisa gently advises him to go easier on the pupils still to come. Outside, Nagisa is startled to find his parents standing together, and his father explains that Korosensei had visited a month earlier to relay how the boy preferred being addressed by his given name, easing the way for a possible reconciliation. Moved, Hiromi agrees to try their marriage again, leaving their son in tears of joy.

As reporters descend, the Big Five screen the class and usher them to the waiting bus, while Gakushu Asano tells Karma, the only student staying in town, that he intends to uncover everything about Korosensei. In the months that follow, the public learns of the Class 3-E system, which is then abolished, the mountain classroom sealed, and Chairman Asano removed from the board for permitting the plot, though many expect his return to education. The government pays out its thirty-billion-yen bounty, and true to their teacher's lessons, the students keep only what they need, give some to the Wakaba Park nursery, buy back the old campus, and hand the rest to the state as a gesture of good faith.

Seven years on, Karasuma, now married to Irina, sends her off on a mission to the Middle East and reflects that she has scarcely changed. At the mountain building the class now owns, Kayano tends flowers she has planted as most of her old classmates gather to maintain the site and trade news of one another's careers. Okano trains there as an acrobat and Kurahashi leads nature outings, Okuda and Takebayashi share a lab developing artificial blood from Korosensei's notes, Sugino's pitching draws pro scouts, Terasaka aides a politician, and Yoshida, Muramatsu, and Itona run family businesses. Ritsu lives entirely online while still helping her friends, Hazama works as a librarian, Nakamura studies in London, and Karma secures a post in the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Nagisa, meanwhile, laments that he has barely grown a centimeter in seven years while everyone else shot up, Karma most of all at 185 centimeters. Now a trainee teacher assigned to a rough class, he is mocked for his slight, boyish looks, and when he asks the students to sit, one snaps that he will kill him. The word triggers Nagisa's instincts, and he lands a stun clap on the boy's neck before calmly wishing him luck in the attempt right up to graduation. As Nagisa walks to the front and begins the lesson, the stunned student glimpses the image of Korosensei standing at his side.

The finale premiered in Japan on June 30, 2016, adapting the second half of Chapter 178 along with Chapter 179 and Chapter 180. The broadcast leaves out Shiro's ultimate fate as shown in the manga and stages the graduation without the government soldiers who guard the students on the page. As a closing touch, the opening replaces the customary countdown on the blackboard with a message of congratulations.
