Chapter 156

Nagisa learns that his score only lands him on a waiting list for his chosen school. Two boys from Class D arrive to mock him, but they scatter the moment Karma, who scored perfectly, steps in. The mood sours further when Takebayashi flunks his own entrance test and stews over the answers he second-guessed.

Hoping to lift spirits, Korosensei outlaws any downbeat word such as lose, fall, or trip, warning that anyone who slips will be branded with a ridiculous side-parted hairstyle. Pupil after pupil earns the embarrassing look, undone by terms as innocent as ronin or snow, until the whole group ends up styled that way after collectively panning one of his jokes.

Takebayashi, however, only grows angrier at hearing the grim vocabulary, and the class rounds on Korosensei for treating their stress as a game. Dodging their gunfire, he reminds Takebayashi that other routes still lead toward his goals, which finally lifts the boy's mood. He also assures everyone that Nagisa should clear the waiting list, since his school tends to be a fallback pick. Irina then strolls in complaining about the slick floor and silly haircuts, only to trigger a group assault by lacing her rant with forbidden negativity.

Nagisa is waitlisted while Karma aces his exam and Takebayashi fails his. Korosensei's ban on negative words leaves the entire class sporting a mocking side part. Takebayashi's despair finally breaks, and Irina falls victim to the same rule the instant she walks in.
