Time for Doubts

The chapter revolves around Akira Takaoka stepping in as Class 3-E's new physical education teacher. Karasuma weighs his students' growth during their drills and briefly picks up on the fearsome aura radiating off Nagisa, a presence he likens to a python, recognizing the boy's instinct for assassination. That assessment is interrupted by the appearance of Takaoka, a former colleague of his. The newcomer leans on a warm, fatherly manner to draw the class in, but the ruthless, sadistic streak beneath it soon surfaces.

Repelled by Takaoka's savage brand of training, Karasuma steps between him and the students to keep him from lashing out at them. At Korosensei's prompting, Karasuma is dared to name his finest pupil to bring Takaoka down, the student armed with a real knife while Takaoka stands bare-handed, the whole thing staged in Takaoka's mind as a public execution. Karasuma chooses Nagisa for the task and gives him final counsel before the bout.

Following that advice, Nagisa closes on Takaoka wearing a smile, and once within reach he lands a clean swipe across the face that catches the instructor off guard. In that opening he seizes Takaoka's shirt, slips around behind him, and ends the fight by pressing his blade to the man's neck. The chapter carries the Japanese title Mayoi no Jikan, was released on May 13, 2013 in issue 24, ran nineteen pages, and was adapted in the anime as part of Episode 13, Talent Time.
