Assassination Classroom: Graduation (live-action)

This entry continues the live-action series begun a year earlier and opened in Japan on March 25, 2016, timed to land on the very day the original manga wrapped up. Eiichiro Hasumi returned as director with Tatsuya Kanazawa writing the screenplay. The project had been made public in April 2015, and the returning ensemble was joined by new faces tied to Korosensei's origin.

Half a year into their final year, Class 3-E still cannot bring down Koro-sensei, who intends to blow up the planet on graduation day. With a school festival approaching, Karasuma urges the students to seize the chance while their teacher is distracted, and to strike before the government's own killer, Red Eye, gets to him first. Neither the class nor Red Eye succeeds, and Korosensei even talks the assassin into abandoning the job for the students' sake.

As the festival closes, Kayano ambushes Korosensei, exposing her own tentacles and revealing herself as child actress Akari Yukimura, the younger sister of the class's late former teacher, Aguri. She blames Korosensei for the death and means to avenge it, but the experimental tentacles are draining her life. Nagisa calms her, breaking her focus with a kiss and shutting the tentacles down. Korosensei then lays out his history: once a human assassin known as the Reaper, he was seized two years earlier by a rogue outfit under Dr. Kotaro Yanagisawa and used as the second test subject, after a mouse, for a chemical meant to accelerate plant growth. Aguri, Yanagisawa's fiancee, oversaw him, and the two grew close. When the lunar mouse destroyed the Moon, Yanagisawa ordered the Reaper killed before he could do the same to Earth. Aguri stopped the execution but was fatally wounded and died in his arms, an act that pulled him back from the madness the experiments had bred and led to his vow to teach Class 3-E.

Moved by the story, Nagisa searches for a way out besides killing his teacher, promising the doubters, Karma among them, that he will do the deed himself if the plan fails. The class works toward an antidote using a file stolen from Yanagisawa's labs, while the government readies a satellite laser as a final option. Agents abduct the students, who break free with help from Karasuma and Irina Jelavic, only to discover the stolen file was a fake. Yanagisawa injects himself with artificial tentacles and turns monstrous, easily overpowering Korosensei. When Akari is hurt trying to shield him, a furious Korosensei detonates a bomb that annihilates Yanagisawa, then performs the surgery he developed after failing Aguri to heal her. He tells the class the time has come, and a weeping Nagisa steps forward to end his life. Years on, Nagisa teaches at a school for delinquents and silently faces down a student trying to intimidate him.

The casting was announced piece by piece across the months before release. Mirei Kiritani was set as Aguri Yukimura and Kazunari Ninomiya as the God of Death in September 2015, followed by Hiroki Narimiya as Kotaro Yanagisawa in December and Tsuyoshi Abe as Red Eye in January 2016. The principal cast from the first film reprised their roles, and by covering the manga's conclusion on its closing day the movie was positioned as the definitive live-action ending.
