11th Commander

A rounded, fleshy face and a hairline in retreat mark him as well past his youth. Black hair, cropped short, tops his head, and he dresses in the Survey Corps standard gear without a bolo tie to signal his office.

Where later commanders like Keith Shadis and Erwin Smith chafe against the system, this man swallows the established order of the Walls whole, voicing no objection to how things are run. Even when powerful men mock his record to his face, he sits through the abuse in silence.

His tenure predates Keith Shadis's rise to the commander's seat. At a gathering of military leadership and nobles, the assembled dignitaries tear into his stewardship of the Survey Corps, complaining that his expeditions produce nothing but corpses, unpaid debts, and an unfinished outpost beyond the Wall. He absorbs every insult without a word while a young Keith stands at his side, an experience that first plants in Keith the dream of one day leading the Corps himself.

On a later expedition a Titan devours him, and Keith is appointed to fill the vacancy as the twelfth commander. Though he is never shown in combat, the rank itself suggests a soldier and strategist of real experience.
