Abel Reiss

Straight-cut bangs frame Abel's face, her fair hair falling to a medium length. Her eyes are pale, and at twelve she still carries a childlike softness. Every appearance shows her in ceremonial white: a simple robe over a v-necked dress cinched by a black waistband, with white sandals, the customary outfit for girls at Reiss household gatherings.

Little of Abel's character reaches the page directly. At Frieda's succession ceremony she looks on without a word as her sister's Titan consumes their uncle. Years later, when a stranger bursts into the Reiss Chapel, she alone reacts with visible excitement and curiosity rather than fear, and Frieda has to hold her back. Those two moments sketch a composed child with an inquisitive streak.

Born into the Reiss line, the true royal family hidden behind the Walls, Abel is a younger daughter of Rod Reiss and his wife. Dirk, Urklyn, and Frieda are her older siblings, Florian her younger sister, and Historia the half-sister born outside the marriage. In 842 she attends the ritual in which Frieda devours their uncle Uri and inherits the First King's power, watching the ceremony in silence.

Three years later, on the night Wall Maria falls, Grisha Yeager forces his way into the Reiss Chapel and transforms into a Titan to steal the Founding Titan from Frieda. Abel perishes in the massacre that follows; Rod later recounts that Grisha's hand crushed her. The Kodansha English release of chapter 63 mislabels her as a boy, describing the twelve-year-old as Dirk's brother.
