Annie Leonhart

Annie stands barely over 150 centimeters, yet muscle packs her compact frame. Pale blonde hair is usually gathered at the back of her head, a fringe falling across the face's right side, and her blue eyes wear a permanently sullen cast above a prominent Roman nose set in an oval, fair-skinned face. Off duty she favors hooded sweatshirts under a jacket with dark gray pants, and a white hoodie becomes part of her standard military look. On her right index finger sits a silver ring concealing a tiny folding blade, her tool for drawing the blood a Titan transformation requires.

Her fourteen-meter Female Titan keeps her features but strips away most of the skin, leaving exposed muscle tissue, fingers of bare bone, and cheeks so heavily corded that the jaw can stretch impossibly wide over yellowed teeth. Next to the shambling Titans around it, the form looks lean, defined, and athletic.

A brutal childhood left Annie walled off. She rarely smiles, wears a flat expression, and claims her only ambition is an easy Military Police posting, a cover that doubles as genuine apathy. Yet she quietly admires people who commit themselves to a cause, telling Marlowe he reminds her of Eren, and her humor runs to deadpan mockery that often smuggles in a piece of the truth. When composure cracks, violence follows: she batters Reiner for his cowardice after Marcel's death and lashes out when he needles her during training. Guilt still leaks through the armor. She apologizes to a corpse after Trost, weeps in her Titan form when Eren slips from her grasp, and is shaken when Reiner manipulates her into stripping Marco's gear.

She is a sharp tactician, handling most of the Warriors' espionage, seeing through Armin's lies and Reiner's rationalizations, and never fooling herself about her own limits; she dismisses the idea of seducing a Fritz noble because she knows charm is not in her toolkit. Ironically she lies poorly herself, a flaw Eren and Kenny Ackerman each call out. What actually drives her is not Marley, which she openly despises, but the promise she made to return to her father. After her crystal shatters she softens, admitting her sins to Hitch, thanking Armin for four years of one-sided visits, and confessing she considers herself a monster.

Born to an Eldian affair and deported to an internment zone, Annie is adopted by Leonhart, who forges her into a Warrior candidate to buy himself a comfortable life. His merciless training makes her strong enough to cripple him in retaliation, and the ordeal hollows out her regard for life. Marley grants her the Female Titan, and after the Warriors flatten an enemy nation as a field test, she is chosen for the Paradis operation alongside Reiner, Bertolt, and Marcel. On the eve of departure her father breaks down, apologizes, and begs her to come home, a promise that shapes everything after. When a Titan devours Marcel, Annie wants to abort the mission, but Reiner forces the survivors on; in Titan form she hauls her comrades toward Wall Maria while towing the horde that pours through the broken gates behind Bertolt and Reiner.

Posing as a refugee, she scouts the capital, learns King Fritz is a figurehead, and enrolls in the 104th Training Corps, where she teaches Eren her father's leg-sweep style, the one thing that draws a genuine smile from her. She graduates fourth, fights through the Trost invasion, saves Connie, and is coerced into dooming Marco. During the 57th Expedition she carves through the Survey Corps as the Female Titan, spares Armin, captures Eren, and loses him to Mikasa and Levi. Armin's suspicion matures into a trap in Stohess; exposed, she transforms with her ring blade, and after a running battle Mikasa shears her Titan's fingers from Wall Sheena. As soldiers cut her free she seals herself in an unbreakable crystal and spends four years comatose beneath the earth, visited faithfully by Hitch and Armin.

Eren's Rumbling shatters the Walls and her crystal with them. After coming clean to Hitch on the road, she joins the alliance of Warriors and Survey Corps veterans, fights the Yeagerists at the harbor, where Thunder Spears cripple her and Reiner, and nearly abandons the cause when Liberio is written off. She stays behind at Odiha to guard Gabi and Falco, then rides Falco's flying Titan to Fort Salta, helping pull Armin from a Titan's grip during the final battle. Victory is poisoned when smoke transforms her father and the Liberio refugees into Titans before her eyes, but Eren's death ends the power of the Titans, restoring them all. Reunited with her father at last, Annie sails three years later as a peace ambassador to Paradis, doubtful but alive, at Armin's side.
