Charlotte

Like the rest of the Survey Corps' purpose-bred mounts, Charlotte stood tall, her coat a deep dark shade. Horses of her line were built for the field: she could sprint at 75 to 80 kilometers per hour, hold a steady 35 over long stretches, and absorb the strain of hard stops, sudden acceleration, and tight circling on staunch legs.

Calm defined her. Titans rarely frightened Charlotte, and the near-constant noise of vertical maneuvering equipment firing beside her left her unbothered. Her bond with Dita Ness went past simple training; after he dismounted mid-battle to bring down an Abnormal, she trotted back to him entirely on her own, earning his delighted praise.

Charlotte carried Ness throughout his Survey Corps career and rode with him on the 57th Expedition Outside the Walls. In open country the pair ran into an Abnormal Titan, which Ness killed before Charlotte returned to his side unprompted. Almost immediately afterward the Female Titan appeared; Ness died attempting to bring her down, and Charlotte was left riderless to roam the wilderness beyond Wall Rose. Armin Arlert later thought back to the day Ness introduced him to the horse while weighing the sacrifices Commander Erwin Smith had accepted in his bid to capture the Female Titan. Long afterward, when Hange Zoë gave their life at Odiha to secure their comrades' escape from the Rumbling, Charlotte stood with Ness among the fallen Survey Corps souls who welcomed Hange in death.
