Colossus Titan

Nothing else in the series matches the Colossus Titan's scale. At sixty meters it rises high enough to gaze down past the Walls themselves, a height no Titan had ever reached before its debut, and its silhouette rising above Shiganshina became one of the franchise's most recognizable images. The body pays a visible price for its signature steam: each release burns away muscle, and sustained venting strips the giant down toward a bare skeleton before the form fails entirely.

Transformation itself doubles as a weapon. Every shifter releases energy when changing, but this Titan's users meter the blast at will. Bertolt Hoover produces little more than a gust of wind when he appears at Trost, then levels a swath of Shiganshina under a mushroom cloud that kills scores of Survey Corps soldiers in an instant. Armin Arlert later erases Marley's naval fleet at Liberio with a single detonation whose shockwave surges inland and flattens the port.

Raw strength scales with its size. One kick shatters Wall Maria's outer gate, houses become projectiles in its grip, and a single blow launches Eren Yeager's Attack Titan from the streets to the top of the Wall. Armin finishes the Liberio fleet by simply stepping on the surviving ships.

Steam is its signature trick. Titans normally vent steam only while healing, but the Colossus floods the air with it on command, scalding and repelling anyone who closes in; an attacker anchored to its body just gets roasted in place. The cost is steep. Heavy venting locks the Titan's muscles, prolonged use wastes the body toward a skeletal frame, and a full instant evaporation, while a perfect escape, drops the user from sixty meters with nothing but maneuvering gear between them and the ground.

Born from the division of Ymir Fritz's power, the Colossus Titan spends 1,700 years among Eldia's warring houses before Marley seizes it in the Great Titan War. Bertolt Hoover inherits it around the year 843 and razes an enemy city in a surprise strike, delivered into position on the Cart Titan's back. In 845 he stands outside Shiganshina District and caves in Wall Maria's gate with one kick, letting the waiting Titans pour into human territory and setting the entire story in motion.

Five years later he repeats the act at Trost District, then evaporates his Titan mid-fight to slip away from Eren Yeager. When Reiner Braun exposes them both a month afterward, Bertolt battles the Survey Corps using a half-formed Colossus, holding the soldiers off with continuous steam until Reiner's signal calls him crashing down in a burst that covers Eren's abduction. The battle of Shiganshina District closes the Titan's first era: Armin Arlert deciphers the muscle-wasting cost of the steam, sacrifices himself to the scalding blasts while clinging to the Titan's teeth, and Eren tears Bertolt out of the nape after baiting him with a hollowed hardening shell. Levi then spends the sole Titan injection on the dying Armin, whose Pure Titan devours Bertolt and claims the power.

Armin turns the Colossus against its former masters. He helps vanish the 32 scouting ships Marley sends toward Paradis, obliterates the Liberio harbor during the raid on Marley, and in the final battle detonates his transformation against Eren's Founding Titan. Eren counters with a colossal body of his own, but Armin wrestles it still long enough for Mikasa Ackerman to slip between its jaws and take Eren's head. With Eren dies the Colossus Titan, extinguished alongside the Power of the Titans.
