Gelgar

A pompadour of brown hair and a prominent nose give Gelgar an easily recognized profile. He dresses in the Survey Corps' standard uniform.

Duty comes first with Gelgar, together with firm faith in Mike Zacharias's decisions and abilities. He unwinds readily whenever nobody is in danger, showing a soldier's typical fondness for alcohol. Sharp observation is his quiet strength: at Ragako he registers the absence of blood, corpses, or fleeing villagers, the stables still full of horses, and houses smashed for no apparent reason, deductions pointing toward the village's impossible fate. His resolve has a breaking point, though; once his gas and blades run dry at Utgard, he gives up and lets the Titans take him.

Mike brings Gelgar along to watch over a group of Survey Corps recruits under suspicion, but the assignment dissolves when Titans are sighted inside Wall Rose. Ordered to spread the warning, Gelgar commands the south team and rides for Ragako, Connie's home village, where he offers encouragement about possible survivors while privately doubting his own words. His team and Nanaba's sweep the Wall from opposite directions that night and meet without either locating a breach, so the exhausted soldiers shelter in Utgard Castle. There Gelgar pockets a liquor bottle whose label he cannot read and posts the veterans on watch while the gearless recruits rest.

Titans that move in darkness storm the castle. With the recruits unable to fight, Gelgar and Nanaba shoulder the defense until his swords give out; a head wound drains the last of his strength, and after falling from the Wall he is hurled by a Titan into one of Utgard's rooms. Landing near the bottle from earlier, he discovers it empty, and in the seconds before a Titan seizes him, he demands to know who emptied it.

He returns in glimpses afterward: among the dead staring down at Erwin in the commander's guilt-ridden vision atop a mountain of corpses, among the fallen souls who receive Hange in death at Odiha, and among the assembled Survey Corps dead who salute Levi one final time after Eren's defeat.
