Freckles scatter across Hannah's cheeks beneath long, light-colored hair gathered back with a tie. Short and slightly built, she dresses in the uniform issued to the 104th Training Corps.

Cheer comes naturally to Hannah; she brightly seconds Franz Kefka's hope that the Titans are gone for good. Trost's fall strips that optimism away, leaving her trembling in Franz's arms. His death breaks her outright: she kneels over his ruined body pressing on his chest in frantic denial, deaf to Armin's insistence that no one can save him.

Hannah debuts on the night her class graduates, joining Franz in pulling apart a brawling Jean and Eren. Strolling through Trost the next day, she notes how much spirits have recovered since Wall Maria fell, and the pair's flustered denial of Eren's teasing about them being a couple fools nobody.

When the Colossus Titan breaches Trost, her squad is ordered into the fight; Franz steadies her and swears to keep her safe before facing the Titans. Armin later comes across her alone in the open, mechanically performing CPR on Franz, who has been bitten through at the waist, and refusing to accept that he is beyond help. The manga never depicts her own death, but the Attack on Titan Character Encyclopedia confirms she falls at some point in the battle. Isayama's early drafts named her Dora; her surname means diamond, and combined with Franz's name it nods to Dora Diamant, companion of the writer Franz Kafka during his final year.
