Mitabi Jarnach

Cropped black hair and a beard trimmed nearly to stubble give Mitabi a no-nonsense look. He is a big man at 191 centimeters and dresses in the usual Garrison uniform.

Doubt shadows Mitabi through most of his appearances; stationed alongside Ian Dietrich and Rico Brzenska, he tends to voice the nervous or skeptical read on any situation. His final act tells a different story. Terrified or not, he plants himself in front of a pack of Titans and bellows to keep their eyes off Eren, proof of real steel underneath the worry.

Command places Mitabi's team among the escorts protecting Eren Yeager on the mission to plug the hole the Colossus Titan punched in Trost's Wall. When Eren's Titan form goes berserk and stops responding, Mitabi concludes the boy is no different from any mindless Titan and moves to pull his men out, with Rico Brzenska reaching the same decision. Ian Dietrich refuses to abandon the operation, arguing that humanity has no other route to beating the Titans without Eren, and orders Mitabi's squad to shield the boy from the creatures closing in. Appalled at first, Mitabi accepts the logic and stays.

Once Eren regains himself and hauls the boulder toward the breach, Mitabi leads his men in on foot, shouting taunts to bait the surrounding Titans away from the carry. The diversion works, and it kills him; a Titan crushes Mitabi during the advance. He had trained in the same Training Corps class as Ian and Rico, and the Garrison ranked him among its top three soldiers.
