Prominent cheekbones and a sharply defined jaw dominate Nile's lean face, framed by thin black hair worn shaggy on top and clipped at the sides. His narrow, dark eyes carry faint bags, and a sparse mustache and goatee complete the look. He appears exclusively in the standard uniform of the military bearing the Military Police crest, with the bolo tie common to commanders of his rank.

As a Pure Titan he stands four meters tall and keeps nearly all of his human features. Despite the small size, the form is quick enough to nearly kill Kaya, Niccolo, and Artur Blouse.

Nile considers rationality his defining trait. Faced with hard calls, he tallies every option, follows the one the evidence supports, and revises his stance as circumstances shift. He wants Eren Yeager executed at trial yet still acknowledges the boy's value, and Levi's point that the Military Police could never handle a rampaging Titan moves him to relent. He likewise permits Erwin's irregular operation against the Female Titan once it is already in motion.

That cold logic often reads as indifference; asked why his branch wants Eren, he answers that carrying out orders is his whole job. Yet a moral core exists underneath: when the crown decides to abandon half of humanity, he defies his orders and the King, a stand that would have meant execution had the monarchy survived. Nile also stays clean of the corruption endemic to the Military Police and admits the First Interior Squad operates beyond his reach. In his youth he intended to join the Survey Corps with Erwin, but love for a woman named Marie changed his path; he calls the family they built his proudest achievement.

Nile trains in the same Training Corps class as Erwin Smith, and the friends plan to enter the Survey Corps together until Nile falls for Marie, a woman from the bar their group frequented. He chooses her over the expedition life, joins the Military Police, and starts a family.

At Eren's tribunal he leads the argument for execution, reasoning that the boy's existence threatens civil war, though Darius Zackly ultimately assigns Eren to the Survey Corps. When Erwin exposes Annie Leonhart as the Female Titan, Nile commits his subordinates to the capture operation. Summoned to Mitras alongside Erwin, he shares a carriage ride in which Erwin probes him about Minister Nick's murder, Marie, and their shared past, warning that guarding his post and guarding his family may diverge.

When Erwin is arrested and the Survey Corps faces disbandment, Nile visits his battered friend in his cell. At the royal audience, the government orders the gates of Wall Sheena closed against refugees fleeing a reported breach of Wall Rose. Nile argues, is rebuffed, and finally declares that he stands with the people of Wall Rose even against the crown. Zackly's forces arrive moments later; the breach report was Pixis's fabricated test of the regime, which it failed. Nile concedes the round to Erwin with a relieved smile, then briefs the press after the coup. He salutes the Survey Corps off to retake Wall Maria, and while awaiting their return admits he was wrong to mock Erwin's old question about whether humanity beyond the Walls had truly perished.

In 851 he objects to trusting the Anti-Marleyan Volunteers, though the alliance proceeds. Three years on, he pushes back against Roeg's contempt for Queen Historia's pregnancy, defending her choice of partner and refusing to force the Beast Titan's inheritance on her, which he argues would likely kill the child and perhaps the queen. After the bombing that kills Zackly, he reports the mass desertion of the soldiers he names Yeagerists. Having unknowingly drunk wine laced with Zeke's spinal fluid, he feels the jolt of Zeke's first scream, is imprisoned alongside Falco Grice, and urges the boy to flee home to Marley if the chance comes, mourning that he may never again see his wife and daughters. Released to fight during Marley's assault, he passes Falco to his brother Colt. Zeke's final scream then transforms him into a Pure Titan, and the creature that was Nile corners Kaya in an alley before Gabi Braun kills it with an anti-Titan rifle.
