Oluo Bozado

Wrinkles etch Oluo's face far more deeply than those of his squadmates, lending him an older look despite being roughly their age. His brown hair, faintly curly, is shaved into an undercut, and his small eyes sit under brows habitually lowered in a condescending scowl. Alongside the regular Survey Corps uniform he wears a cravat, a deliberate imitation of Captain Levi that extends to his hairstyle.

Bravado pours out of Oluo, who never tires of advertising his own skill. The bragging is not empty; his 39 solo kills top everyone in the Special Operations Squad short of Levi himself. Few take his posturing seriously though, partly because of a clumsy habit of accidentally biting his tongue. His running impression of Levi, from the rough speech to the aloof swagger, regularly puts him at odds with Petra Ral, who finds it insufferable.

Combat strips away the clowning. He accepts without complaint that Levi has cause for hiding the truth of the 57th Expedition even while the Female Titan bears down on them, scolds Eren for breaking discipline, and keeps total focus on protecting Eren after Gunther's death, refusing to let grief compromise the mission.

Oluo's beginnings in the Survey Corps are humble; Eld Jinn recalls him weeping and soiling himself on his first expedition. He matures into an elite soldier, and Levi selects him for the Special Operations Squad alongside Petra, Eld, and Gunther, charged with guarding Eren Yeager and executing him should his Titan power slip loose. Oluo needles the newcomer constantly, and when Eren transforms partially by accident, Oluo threatens to cut him down on the spot. Once tempers cool, the whole squad bites their own hands, mirroring Eren's transformation trigger, as a rough apology and a plea for his trust.

On the 57th Expedition the squad's flight through the forest becomes a nightmare when the Female Titan runs them down, slaughtering the reinforcements behind them. Oluo and the others beg Levi for permission to engage, receiving only a sound grenade and a reminder of their assignment. Eren, torn between transforming and trusting his squadmates, chooses the squad, and they reach the trap where Erwin's forces pin the Female Titan. Afterward, the group puzzles over why even elite soldiers were kept in the dark, concluding Erwin had his reasons.

During the retreat, a disguised Annie kills Gunther and transforms to chase Eren again. Ordered to send Eren ahead, the remaining three attack. Eld blinds the Titan, Petra and Oluo carve out her eyes, and together they sever her arms. Then a single regenerated eye turns the fight: she bites Eld in half and smashes Petra against a tree while the stunned soldier fails to hear Oluo's warning. Alone and enraged, Oluo drives a full-power slash at her nape, but crystallized skin shatters the blow, and her roundhouse kick kills him.

His memory recurs across the story: Eren names him among the victims of the stolen Titan power beneath the Reiss chapel, he stands with the dead in Erwin's vision at Shiganshina and in Levi's reflections during the war's final days, and after Eren's fall he joins the fallen Survey Corps in saluting Levi one last time.
