Reiner's father

Burly and tall, with broad shoulders that lend him an imposing frame, Reiner's father nonetheless looks worn down: lines cross his forehead and bags hang under his sharp, bright eyes. His wiry hair has receded far back on his scalp, and his beard and mustache merge into his sideburns. Thin eyebrows sit over strongly defined features.

Fear governs him. Knowing that Marley hangs those who cross the racial line, he abandons his lover and infant son to protect himself and his Marleyan relatives, and years later disowns Reiner to his face rather than risk exposure. He regards Karina with a mix of dread and disdain, imagining she seeks revenge against him and panicking at the thought.

His job at the barracks brings him into contact with Karina Braun, and the two carry on a relationship the law strictly forbids. Karina eventually bears their son Reiner, and rather than face the cruel penalties awaiting a Marleyan who fathered a child with an Eldian, he deserts them both.

In 845 Reiner finds him alone in the kitchen where he cooks. The boy explains that he has become a Warrior, making himself and his mother honorary Marleyans, and begins proposing that the three of them finally live together. The mention of Karina unsettles the man, and before Reiner can finish he erupts, shouting that the two of them are Eldian devils and that discovery would destroy his family.
