War Hammer Titan

The War Hammer's frame measured about 15 meters, putting it level with the Attack and Armored Titans. Its defining feature was the arsenal it sculpted for itself, most famously an enormous hammer conjured from hardened flesh. Because the operator never occupied the nape, the body could erupt from the ground at almost any point nearby, tethered to its true master by a long cord of flesh trailing back to a crystal shell.

Structural hardening set this Titan apart from its peers. It could raise weaponry directly out of the earth: pikes big enough to skewer and hoist a 15 meter Titan, sudden fields of spikes flooding an area, and edged arms such as sickles, battle axes, and broadswords. It even managed flexible components, stringing a working crossbow and shaping a cat-o'-nine-tails complete with pliable lashes, a feat no other hardening displays. The same power sealed the operator inside a protective crystal, and unlike the Female Titan's version, the person within stayed conscious and kept piloting the body remotely. Only the Jaw Titan's teeth and claws ever proved capable of marring that casing. Theo Magath cautioned that leaning on the ability too heavily in a short span would rapidly drain the user's stamina.

Detaching the control center from the nape enabled true remote operation. Severing the flesh cable shut the active body down, but the operator could simply generate a fresh one, and each new body could surface from a different spot.

Like its eight siblings, the War Hammer came into being after Ymir Fritz died, then spent 1,700 years passing among the feuding Eldian houses that answered to the Founding Titan. By the time Karl Fritz withdrew to Paradis Island, it belonged to the Tybur family, the first Eldians to side with rising Marley during the Great Titan War. The Tyburs kept it through the following century as honorary Marleyan aristocrats, never once fielding it in battle and concealing the inheritor's identity from all but a few high officials. The power eventually settled on Lara Tybur.

Ahead of the Liberio festival, Zeke Yeager persuaded the Tyburs to commit their Titan to the next Paradis campaign. When Eren Yeager's Attack Titan devoured Willy Tybur mid-declaration, Lara transformed. Her Titan pinned Eren's with spikes from the ground, took his Titan's head off with a swing of the great hammer, and nearly executed him before Mikasa Ackerman's Thunder Spears detonated inside its nape. The body rose again regardless. Tracing a cable running from its heel, Eren found Lara crystallized underground, severed the line, and, after fighting off the Jaw Titan's interference, jammed the already scratched crystal between that Titan's jaws and forced it shut. He swallowed the fluid that spilled free and claimed the War Hammer for Eldia.

Eren put the inheritance to steady use, sealing his escape route out of an underground cell and later throwing up rows of spikes against the Jaw and Armored Titans during Marley's assault on Shiganshina. Ymir Fritz rebuilt the War Hammer during the climactic Battle of Heaven and Earth to shield Eren while the Rumbling advanced; it impaled Pieck Finger before she transformed again and destroyed it. With Eren's death, the War Hammer vanished along with every other Titan.
