Willy Tybur

Everything about Willy's presentation is curated. Straight blond hair falls to his shoulders, arranged over the right ear and cut shorter behind the left, and a goatee without a mustache frames his mouth. He dresses in a costly dark suit, black tie, and polished shoes befitting his rank.

His features run soft, offset by a firm jawline, a smallish nose, dark eyes, and eyebrows kept thin to match the rest of his grooming. Simply standing before others, he projects effortless confidence and charisma.

Courtesy and theatrical polish coexist in Willy. He treats Theo Magath with respect from their first meeting yet cannot resist teasing him, inviting the commander to guess which member of his family carries the War Hammer Titan. Caution runs just as deep; he keeps the Tyburs invisible to the public, once having a building's owner removed before daring to visit it himself.

His sense of honor takes the form of penance. Convinced the Tyburs owe a debt for Eldia's ancient brutality toward Marley, he lets the Marleyan state govern as it pleases, even at his own people's expense. Above all he is a persuader of rare power, able to confess that Marley's accepted history is a fabrication and, minutes later, rally that same audience behind his crusade against Paradis.

Born into the nobility, Willy grows up befriending children of foreign states such as Nambia, while his younger sister Lara inherits the War Hammer Titan. On assuming leadership of the family he learns from her the buried truth of the Great Titan War and the bargain struck with Karl Fritz. The revelation appalls him, but it also hands him a purpose: to answer his forebears' sins and pull Marley back from its slow decline.

With global technology eroding the value of Titans, the Tyburs agree to support Zeke Yeager and the Warriors in the coming operation against Paradis Island. Willy seeks out Theo Magath at the Warriors' headquarters, discloses that his family has ruled Marley from the shadows as a form of atonement, and shares his awareness of a threat approaching from the island. He announces that he will expose the family's secrets at the Liberio festival and asks Magath to work alongside him. Over the following month the two arrange the gutting of the old military leadership in Magath's favor and prepare the festival itself as bait. Willy insists on packing the stage with expendable officers and on standing there personally; the world, he argues, rallies around victims, and it would never trust a powerful man who alone walked away unharmed.

His address begins as theater and ends as confession. Willy recounts Eldia's centuries of conquest and the toll of the Titans, then dismantles the legend of Helos, naming the pacifist King Karl Fritz as Marley's real savior and admitting that the threat of the Wall Titans was a bluff honored by royal successors sworn against war. That fragile arrangement, he warns, has already collapsed: rebellion has toppled the royal government of Paradis, and the Founding Titan now answers to Eren Yeager, a man with no royal blood and no vow, capable of commanding the millions of giants inside the Walls against which no modern arsenal would matter. Confessing that he hates his own blood and would sooner never have existed, yet still wishes to live, he asks the world's assembled representatives for their strength and formally declares war. On cue, the Attack Titan erupts through the structure behind the stage, smashes its fist down on him, and hurls his broken body skyward before devouring it. From the rubble his sister Lara thanks him for a duty flawlessly performed before assuming her War Hammer Titan form. Months later, as Marleyan forces spring their ambush at Shiganshina, Magath silently credits Willy's sacrifice with making the assault possible.
