Forest of Giant Trees: The 57th Exterior Scouting Mission, Part 2

Stranded after the Female Titan's departure, Armin, Jean, and Reiner face the grim arithmetic of one horse for three riders until Christa gallops up leading two spares, answering Jean's emergency signal. Expecting a retreat order, the group instead sees flares marking a changed course and rejoins a mission that has quietly become something else.

The Female Titan's rampage continues across the right flank. Squad leader Darius Baer Walbrunn halts it with a smoke round and orders a three-way simultaneous strike, but the Titan leaps clear, crushes two attackers, and whips a third around by his own wire hard enough to fold his body. Darius flees to spread a warning and is punted into the air, horse and all. Every soldier who intercepts afterward only adds to the count.

The formation presses east to a Forest of Giant Trees, and Erwin sends only the center column inside, posting the cadets along the edge to cut down any Titan that tries to enter. From the canopy, Jean grumbles about orders nobody understands, while Armin starts to suspect the commander means to face the Female Titan among the trees. Riding the forest road, Eren asks Levi why they have surrendered their sight lines; Levi tells him to think, pointing out terrain built for ODM combat. A black flare erupts behind the squad, and the Female Titan smashes through the treeline, swatting aside the soldier fleeing before it. Reinforcements attack and die in moments. As Petra begs for orders and Oruo argues for engaging, Levi keeps riding in silence, then finally tells his squad to cover their ears and fires a flare skyward.

Christa's arrival with spare horses spares Armin, Jean, and Reiner from leaving a man behind, and the trio return to a formation that has abandoned its original course.

The Female Titan demonstrates tactical killing on the right flank, dismantling Darius Baer Walbrunn's coordinated three-man strike and slaughtering every responder.

Erwin routes only the formation's center into the Forest of Giant Trees, stationing the remaining soldiers at the perimeter without explanation.

Levi hints at the forest's purpose, terrain ideal for omni-directional mobility gear, while Armin begins piecing together Erwin's plan to confront the Female Titan inside.

The Female Titan bursts onto Squad Levi's trail and cuts down the reinforcements; Levi, calm throughout the chase, orders ears covered and fires a special signal flare.
