Church of the Walls

Also rendered as the Wall Religion, this faith places Maria, Rose, and Sheena above all else. Its doctrine holds that God, in truth Karl Fritz, granted the Walls to humanity as protection against the Titans, and that nothing impure may touch them: no people, no rails, no mounted cannon. High-ranking faithful wear jewelry marking their devotion, and the organization wields considerable religious and political influence inside the Walls, sitting close to the Royal Government; a minister is even present at meetings with the figurehead king.

The church's real significance lies in what it conceals. A select circle of ministers knows the Walls are packed with Colossal Titans, information hidden from everyone else and possibly tied to the wider mystery of the Titans' origin. Loyalty within the order runs to the point of self-sacrifice; members die rather than let its secrets out.

Betrayal is answered without mercy. When Minister Nick chose to cooperate with the Survey Corps, the First Interior Squad of the Military Police hunted him down, torturing and killing him. After the truth about the Titans became public knowledge on Paradis, and the Rumbling later brought the Walls down entirely, the organization is presumed to have dissolved, though one senior figure from the faith continues to serve the new government under Queen Historia Reiss.

Followers of the faith are called Wallists, drawn from many places and walks of life, with ministers acting as its public representatives. The only named figure is Minister Nick, the order's known leader, murdered by the Interior Squad after appearing to divulge some of what the church knew. One unnamed senior figure of the faith survives the upheaval and works within Historia's administration.
