Overview

Function
Each batch looks like a mass of fermented soybeans about as big as a human head. Storehouses and tents pack these lumps in alongside soybeans, wheat, and dry-cured meats, and their presence dramatically slows how quickly those provisions decompose. Stranger still, the goods sharing storage with the yeast appear to be transformed by it in some way, through means that the science of the Walls cannot yet account for.
