The song first appeared as the second cut on the YAMANAIAME album, released November 19, 2014, and later landed at track eleven on disc one of the "Attack on Titan" Season 2 Original Soundtrack on June 7, 2017. It runs 4:49 and also served as an insert song in the fifth OVA, A Choice with No Regrets: Part Two.

Rie, Benjamin, and mpi share the lyric credit, with Benjamin performing the vocal. Hiroyuki Sawano, the composer and arranger behind the whole pre-Final Season score, plays piano, keyboards, and every remaining instrument, joined by YU "Masshoi" Yamauchi on drums, Toshino Tanabe on bass, and Harutoshi Ito on guitars and cello.

The words alternate between German and English, sketching an evening among comrades: chairs pressed close in a small, low-ceilinged room, stories and drink shared through the night once the day's fighting ends. Because no stars shine and no moonlight reaches their city, the singers resolve to switch on their own light and sing beneath a heaven of stone, easing their burdens under burnt clouds through a long night. The German title translates as "That's how it always is", the refrain that anchors the chorus.

Musically, the piece borrows the motif from cóunter・attàck-m'ænkάɪnd, threading it through three passages beginning around 1:06, 2:36, and 4:06.

The song belongs to the A Choice with No Regrets OVAs, which chronicle Levi's life in the underground before joining the Scouts. Part One pairs it with Furlan and Levi distributing their money, and with a montage of Isabel training alongside the two men.

Part Two uses it twice: once as Levi, Furlan, and Isabel gaze up at the night sky together, and again over the ending, its insert-song placement matching the track's theme of companions carving out light in a sunless world.
