Chimimoryo

Schierke identifies the being as a chimimoryo, a category of Japanese folklore spirit linked to mountains and rivers. This one is a tiny astral creature all but defined by its oversized nose, and that beak of a snout is what earned it the affectionate fan name Schnoz, a label the broader Berserk readership has attached to it since 2003.

Far from menacing, the chimimoryo reads as placid and slow-moving. Planted in the group's way, it will not stir on its own until it is prodded along, and the game's creators later confessed they kept it out of the Qliphoth's creepier residents because they judged it too cute to belong among them.

When the Black Swordsman Party draws near the Qliphoth, the chimimoryo stations itself right at the region's threshold. Sensing that it will not give ground, Schierke reaches out with thought projection to nudge it into waddling aside, whereupon Puck and Ivalera harry the creature until it topples over a jutting tree root. For all that it appeared in just a single manga chapter, the little spirit went on to enjoy a fame entirely its own beyond the page, spawning a meme that has run for decades and even turning up as a Diablo IV pet.
