Foss

Foss carries himself as a Midland court official, a man of council chambers and politics rather than the battlefield. He is remembered above all for his scheming air, a quality vividly rendered in his 1997 anime appearance, and he presents himself in the manner befitting a senior minister of the realm.

Deceit and manipulation come naturally to Foss. The unease that gripped him in Griffith's presence pushed him to plot the young commander's death, and it is fear as much as ambition that steers his hand. Above all, he loves his daughter Elize deeply, and it is that love, once turned into leverage against him, that ultimately bends him to Griffith's will.

During the Golden Age, the dread Griffith stirred in him led Foss to conspire with Julius against the commander, and he later joined the Queen of Midland in a further attempt on his life. When Griffith's men seized Elize as a hostage, Foss was forced to serve Griffith's own plan to eliminate his political rivals, spared afterward with a warning never to interfere again. It was Foss who used the Queen's affair with Julius to suggest that Griffith had engineered Julius' death, unaware that this was precisely the truth, just as neither he nor Griffith foresaw the Queen entangling herself in the plot.

Under the later Kushan occupation he headed a resistance within Wyndham, learned of Griffith's long-awaited return, and, warned by Elize's prophetic dream of Ganishka's rise, organized the mass evacuation of the city before its destruction. He went on to witness Griffith's army crush Ganishka's spawn and the founding of Falconia, where he now serves among its ministers.
