Hanarr

Hanarr belongs to the dwarves, a diminutive smith who keeps to the stone forest far below Skellig. His craft defines him more than any feature: he is the maker whose anvil produced both the Skull Knight's armor and the dreaded Berserker Armor.

He speaks with a dry, knowing edge, greeting the Skull Knight as a king yet likening his so-called good health to the death rattle of a body already in its coffin. He is also blunt to the point of aggression, willing to swing his hammer at a guest without warning to make a point.

When Gedfring, the Skull Knight, and Guts descend into the depths of Skellig, Hanarr receives them and marvels to see the Berserker Armor once more. Recognizing that Guts has worn it hard as its owner, he cautions the swordsman that possession is not mastery, and that the suit may yet seize and devour its host. To drive the warning home, he abruptly strikes the armor with his hammer, jolting it awake so that it begins to consume Guts. His name, drawn from Norse myth, belongs to a dwarf whose title means the skillful or the chanter.
