Summary

Isidro sights Skellig as Guts and Roderick talk over their voyage. When Ivalera stresses how much they owe Schierke, Guts credits her and the rest of his company. Reaching shore, Puck recounts leaving the island: a losing quarrel with a seagull over fish led him to ride the bird home, until he slid off its back while wetting himself in his sleep and dropped beside a passing ship. As they land, Isma's mother hands her a shell for emergencies and warns that time runs differently here; Schierke and Isidro liken it to elf lore, while Roderick worries about the Seahorse. The merrow explains that time holds steady within the cove but cautions against lingering too long.

Climbing a hill, Magnifico reminds Puck of their pact. The group meets a field of patterned stones, and Isidro's attempt to barrel through snaps him back to the others. Schierke identifies a barrier raised after the Great Wave of the Astral World: with the astral and physical realms now overlapping, the island's elves and mages walled out intruders from the physical world. To slip past, she has Puck lead, since he once lived there, tying a cord that each member grips into a single file, and the line clears the field without being turned away.

From afar, silhouettes in cone-shaped hats sense the newcomers and puzzle over how anyone breached the barrier, though they stay calm, noting they still have scarecrows. The party arrives at a pumpkin field dotted with them, and Guts's Brand of Sacrifice stirs as Schierke grows uneasy. Puck warns Isidro to touch nothing, but the boy has already grabbed a pumpkin, waking a scarecrow that lunges at him. A single stroke of the Dragon Slayer destroys it, and in the distance more scarecrows begin to march toward the group.
