Summary

Pressing deeper into the forest, Schierke remarks on the potent od filling the air as Isidro finds his body oddly light and accidentally springs onto a branch, where he clings in fear. The cause is a scarcity of heavy elementals, or barytes, a fifth kind of weight spirit that binds the four elemental forces and is too small to see even by scrying; their thinning here has upset Isidro's gravity. Isma, oblivious to his terror, joins him on the branch he begs her not to shake, while overhead four elves who know Puck announce themselves, teasing that he has been away, though one never noticed him gone.

As the group walks on, a whole gathering of mystic creatures emerges from the woods to gawk at the visitors, sweeping them into games and dances without asking, with Magnifico certain he will be eaten. Ivalera scolds the woodlanders' lack of manners, then, flattered by their attention, spins them tales. Puck's friends fawn over Guts and mimic his habit of playing a grand sage. Gedfring dryly warns this could last forever and has Danan end it; a blast of her horn sends the creatures home, all but the unicorn carrying Isma.

Danan leads them to the base of a towering cherry tree whose petals drift down like snow while fairies flit through branches that regrow their cherries the instant they are picked. Magnifico reminds Puck of their scheme to crown him Elf King in exchange for a cut of the profits. At a throne of wood and flowers, brownies, centaurs, and others strike up a royal fanfare, and Pick and Pack carry Puck, decked in a tiny robe and crown, to the seat. He orders the plebs to bow before imperial elves haul him off; he blurts out the plot, and clover vines and twigs bind him and Magnifico harmless. Ending the farce, Danan steps forward and lifts away her witch's hat, cherry blossoms whirling about her as she reveals herself as the long-awaited Flower Storm Monarch.
